The Commissioner of Karachi has granted permission to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to establish cattle markets at five designated locations across the city ahead of the upcoming Eid season.

According to an official notification issued by the commissioner’s office, the approved sites include Sunday Bazaar in North Karachi, a KMC ground, Safari Park Karachi, and two locations in Gulistan-e-Johar (Blocks 5 and 6).

In addition, cattle markets will also be set up at Lyari (Bakra Peri area) and on a vacant plot in Korangi. The decision aims to regulate the sale of sacrificial animals and reduce unplanned roadside setups across the city.

The KMC had initially requested permission to establish cattle markets at 11 different locations across Karachi. However, the commissioner’s office has so far approved only five sites for the purpose.

Officials say the designated cattle markets will help manage traffic flow, ensure better sanitation arrangements, and provide organized facilities for buyers and sellers during the Eid period. Authorities are also expected to deploy additional municipal and security staff at these locations to maintain order and cleanliness.

The establishment of regulated cattle markets is a routine practice in Karachi every year ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, as thousands of animals are brought into the city from different parts of the country for sacrificial purposes.

Further arrangements, including pricing oversight and veterinary checks, are likely to be announced by municipal authorities in the coming days to ensure smooth operations at the designated sites.
